What Dandelion Root Does for Your Immune System

Dandelion has been used for healing for thousands of years. But the most powerful benefit to have been discovered by medical researchers is its potential to cure cancer. We now know this powerful root boosts the immune system, and can cure prostate, lung and other cancers better, in some cases, than chemotherapy.

Dr. Carolyn Hamm of the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre in Ontario, Canada, found dandelion root extract was the only treatment that improved chronic myelomonocytic leukemia. This type of cancer usually affects older adults.

John Di Carlo was a 72-year-old cancer patient at Dr. Hamm’s hospital. When treatment for his leukemia proved unsuccessful, he was sent home to receive palliative care. In an interview with CBC News, Di Carlo said he was told to drink dandelion root tea as a last resort. Four months later, his cancer was in full remission.

Research studies show dandelion root extract is capable of affecting cancer cells in a very short period of time, as proven in the Di Carlo case. Malignant cells begin to disintegrate within 48 hours of coming in contact with the extract. The body then replaces the cancer cells with healthy new cells.

Other studies show the extract also fights breast, colon, prostate, liver and lung cancer. While the taste of dandelion root tea is not wonderful, it is much more palatable than the potentially devastating side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

Traditional cancer therapy affects all cells, even those that are healthy. Dandelion root acts in an entirely different way. It boosts your immune system and only targets the malignant cells.

Dr. Hamm does have a warning for cancer patients. She say that dandelion root extract can be incompatible with chemotherapy. Always keep your doctor apprised of any natural remedies, supplements or foods you are planning to incorporate into your treatment.

Dandelion tea offers benefits even if you don’t have cancer. The roots and stem combat diabetes by stimulating the pancreas to produce insulin, which normalizes blood sugar levels.

Dandelion tea is also good for digestive issues and to rid the body of toxins. The vitamins and minerals present in dandelions cleanse the liver. Your liver supports your digestive system by producing bile, and by filtering chemicals and other impurities from the blood.
