Sink into a Detox Bath

One of the easiest and least expensive home spa treatments you can give yourself is a natural detox bath. There are a number of natural products that can be added to warm bath water to help with relaxation and detoxification, and one of those is apple cider vinegar. This vinegar is widely recognized for the health benefits it offers when taken internally, but adding it to bath water is even more helpful.

Apple cider vinegar is a general disinfectant that heals minor cuts and scrapes before you even realize you have them. If you have arthritis, soaking in bathwater with apple cider vinegar can help ease your pain and reduce inflammation. This vinegar also neutralizes body odor.

Soaking in a warm bath laced with apple cider vinegar helps with dry, itchy skin. This detox bath will also relieve cramps, and if you have clogged sinuses, the steam from the bath will help resolve congestion. Washing your hair with apple cider vinegar will also help fight dandruff. It is good for energy, and helps the body remain alkaline.

To use apple cider vinegar, add one or two cups to a nice hot tub, and soak for 30 to 40 minutes up to a few times a week.

Another good detoxifying agent is baking soda. This also helps you maintain alkalinity. Simply pour a cup or two into the tub. Baking soda can be used frequently.

Ginger is another popular addition to the bath. It has warming properties and increases circulation. Peel and boil a handful of fresh ginger in a bit pot of water, and add that “tea” to the bath water. Ginger will make you perspire, so be sure to drink lots of water before, during and after the bath. Use this one infrequently, perhaps in the winter when you are feeling cold or sluggish.

Epsom salts are excellent for healing sore muscles, menstrual cramps, and even insomnia, as they are rich in magnesium. You can use epsom salts more often.

Before you begin, scrub your skin with a loofa or a soft brush, to help open your pores and maximize the detoxification effect. Keep water close by, and drink as you bathe, and afterward. Lots of water helps your body get rid of impurities. Make sure the water is not too hot for comfort, and because people sometimes feel faint during detox, it is best to bathe with someone else close by.

If you have health issues or chemical additions, or any other concerns, check first with your doctor.
